July 2: A Happy Day in Grand Forks

Everyone was pretty efficient in the morning and we left only a few minutes after planned departure time. We were to meet with members of the Grand Forks Cycling Club somewhere between Paulson Pass and Christina Lake and we didn’t want to make them climb all the way to the top by being late. The weather was perfect and we made good time to the top then got to enjoy the payoff of a long downhill. Gorgeous views and speeds over 50 km/h. Wheee!

Just below the Paulson Bridge a swarm of bumblebees (the Grand Forks cycling group in yellow and black) met up with us and led us to Smoochies cafe in Christina Lake where we were treated to goodies and camaraderie. Brian of Chain Reaction cycle shop gave up part of his day off to help fix up some people’s bikes. Thanks so much, Brian!

The kids are contributing to our cycling kilometers in various ways. The teenage boys are doing it all, the younger kids are usually in the van but today they did a 20 km section of the Trans Canada Trail. and in the evening at the Grand Forks Municipal Park we had a little bike rally where local kids, as well as kids from our group, (and a few enthusiastic adults - including Grand Forks Councilor Chris Moser) could contribute by doing 1 km laps around the campground. It was great to see them keep choosing to do ‘one more lap’...
